A 30-year veteran Law Enforcement Officer in Central Virginia, Tim Sutton spent six years as a patrolman and four years as a Street Crimes Investigator before being promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant in 1999. In 2003, he implemented the tracking program for individuals who wander or elope from caregivers for his current agency where he continues to run the program. Since then, he has gained valuable experience and insight interacting extensively with families dealing with Alzheimer’s disease, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other special needs. Having both attended and instructed numerous seminars on those topics, he was asked in 2007 by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to become an instructor, teaching the “Alzheimer’s For First Responders” course across Virginia. In 2009, Tim was asked to help develop an Autism Training Curriculum for Public Safety employees in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Since that pilot class was presented at the Project Lifesaver International Conference in 2010, he has been part of a team traveling across the state conducting Autism Training. He has also traveled across the country since 2011 for the International Association of Chiefs of Police as one of six subject matter experts teaching the Alzheimer’s Initiative.
